MISSIONS RELATED SITES ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB Introduction The internet sites included in this project are all missions organizations. The main purpose of this presentation is to give a brief synopsis of each site, indicate and comment on the usefulness and quality of the sites, and finally give an indication of the particular mission organizations ecclesiastical affiliations and associations. The sites will be rated according to the following scale: Quality: Excellent (A) Good (B) Average (C) Poor (D) Very Poor (F) Content: Excellent (1) Good (2) Average (3) Poor (4) Very Poor (5)
Summary The AD2000 & Beyond Movement first gained attention at the international missions conference Lausanne II in Manila in 1989. The Movement then spread rapidly around the globe to help coordinate these evangelism plans that focus on the year 2000. The AD2000 & Beyond Movement seeks to encourage cooperation in establishing a church within every unreached people ground making the gospel available to every person by the year 2000. Ralph Winter, founder of the U.S. Center for World Mission, calls the AD2000 & Beyond Movement, "the largest, most pervasive global evangelical network ever to exist." Patrick Johnstone, author of the book Operation World, writes, "I believe that God has given us the best opportunity in all history to gain a wide level of support among Christians committed to world evangelization in the AD2000 vision." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions It is a grassroots movement. The Movement does not function from the top down, but from the bottom up. Although the movement has strong leadership, those leaders recognize their role as primarily one of encouragement and facilitation, providing assistance to national, regional and resource network leaders worldwide. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations This is a movement which is made up of nearly every kind of denomination and Christian organization imaginable. According to the AD2000 & Beyond web page, the movement, "brings together the entire spectrum of the contemporary Protestant church, particularly removing the barriers between traditional Evangelicals, Pentecostal and Charismatics." The AD2000 & Beyond Movement also sponsored the May 17-25, 1995 Global Consultation on World Evangelization (GCOWE '95). Nearly 4,000 Christian leaders representing 186 countries this conference. Site Ranking: A-1 The AD2000 & Beyond web site is very well done as well as very informative. There is a vast amount of information on the AD2000 & Beyond Movement and great deal of outside links to numerous related sites. This is an excellent place to start if doing research on this type of a movement.
"In addition to Nigeria and Sudan, Action Partners works in partnership with Christian agencies in Cameroon, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and the United Kingdom. The work undertaken in the field is varied and dynamic in nature. There are workers in medical, educational, church and rural spheres with relief work also going on in war-torn and needy areas. All of our workers share a common faith in the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and His power to save. No matter what the work, we are committed to seeing African people come into a dynamic relationship with the Living God. Our aim is to reach out to those who remain without Christ and to support our African brothers and sisters in Christ, particularly those who are in a place of suffering. We also aim to be known in the Western church as a unique facilitating agent which operates in partnership with churches and para-church organizations to see African peoples of all kinds come to Christ. We pray that by God's grace, we will have more workers in the field, more supporters at home and more African people than ever before in relationship with Jesus." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "In 2004, Action Partners (SUM) will celebrate its centenary. In the six years that lie between now and then, we are committed to seeing the development of more co-operative partnerships with churches in Africa and the UK and for the work to expand into other countries within the Sahel region." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations Information not available. Site Ranking: B-3 The site is very heavy on graphics but very short on content. It took a long time to navigate and did not provide much information.
Adopt-A-Church International, Inc. is an evangelistic organization dedicated to helping national Christians serve God in their own countries. It seeks to link churches and pastors in the Third World with churches and families in the West. Adopt-A-Church International began as a vision in 1991 after its founder Daniel L. Lemmen traveled into Romania with an evangelistic team from Steve Wingfield Ministries in October 1989. After returning home from the trip, Dan struggled for over a year with God's call. Finally, after much prayer and seeking God's will in his life, the ministry of Adopt-A-Church International was revealed. On September 3, 1991 Adopt-A-Church International, Inc. was formally established. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions The mission of Adopt-A-Church International, Inc. is to bring together churches in the United States willing to give spiritual and financial support to churches in Eastern Europe in need of such support. To establish meaningful relationships between churches in the United States and churches in Eastern Europe. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations No information available. Site Ranking: B-2 The site provided much information about the organization and traveling throughout the site was very easy. The site was not very fancy on the graphics but was very well organized.. No outside links or extraneous information is made available.
"Founded in 1889 the AEF has a long history of following God to difficult places. Our missionaries come from more than a dozen nations and many Protestant denominations. Our priorities and vision are specific: to reach the unreached, to plant churches where there are none and to build the church through discipleship and the training of national leaders. Summary American Missionary Fellowship expresses its purpose and vision for their work as follows: 1. To reach the yet unreached peoples of America for Jesus Christ people who have been by-passed or neglected by other ministries. 2. To establish mission points and to plant churches in rural and urban communities where there is presently no clear gospel witness. 3. To influence America's future by reaching children and young people through every effective ministry available to us. 4. To establish ministry centers in the inner cities where there are desperate spiritual needs; there to claim lives and territories from sin and hopelessness. 5. To multiply our ministries to peoples of other cultures Latinos, Asians, Africans, Middle Easterners. This is the "mission field" that God is bringing to America. 6. To be an effective participant in the global task of fulfilling Christ's Great Commission. We commit ourselves to be faithful to Him and the mission to which He has called us, until He comes again. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions No information except what was stated above. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations American Missionary Fellowship states that their basis of fellowship is based on, "a oneness of heart and mind in all things of the Lord Jesus Christ." They are associated with the Interdenominational Foreign Missions Association and the Evangelical Council For Financial Accountability. The American Missionary Fellowship claims to be non-charismatic in it's doctrine and practice. Site Ranking: B-3 This site is very basic. It is not well organized. Traveling through the site is difficult because it is not possible to see an entire page at once. "The purpose of AmeriTribes is to establish and strengthen clusters of viable, reproducing, indigenous churches within as many unreached Indian tribes in the Americas as God enables. Our vision is to help Gods people fulfill their Biblical mandate by establishing Christ's church among tribal peoples of the Americas so that their unique cultures may be enriched by the gospel, they may declare God's glory among the yet unreached peoples and they may join with the rest of the world's peoples in worshipping our God for eternity." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions See the above information. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations No information available. Site Ranking: C-3 There was very little information provided about the mission board. "Our purpose is the same as it has been since we began more than a hundred years ago-to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to Muslims of the Arab World. Our vision is to see mature and vibrant churches among Muslims of the Arab World. We aim to:
Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "AWM is an international body that believes multi-national participation in mission is fundamental for our identity. The peoples of the Arab world need to see the international Body of Christ proclaiming Him as Lord. The Holy Spirit has captured the attention of Christians worldwide for ministry among Muslims of the Arab world." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations "We are a conservative, historically evangelical, faith mission. Our personnel agree without reservation to our doctrinal statement. Islam views Christianity as a very fragmented religion; many Muslims challenge the collective witness of the church on this issue. Therefore, we consider a wholehearted focus on the essential issues of our faith as absolutely necessary for reaching the Muslim World." Site Ranking: A-2 This site could be very useful to someone conducting research on Arab missions. There is a separate section devoted specifically to this topic. AIMS is a ministry that encourages, trains, mobilizes, networks and facilitates the world-wide community of churches, agencies, other organizations and individuals for strategic global evangelization. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions No information available.
Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations This organization appears to be very ecumenical in nature. The members include Bethany Fellowship Missions, Christian Fellowship Union, Home Education and Family Services , James Financial Services, Mission Possible Foundation, Inc., Mission to Unreached Peoples, Mission Training International, and the Pentecostal Holiness Church Site Ranking: C-3 The site is very basic in appearance and function. It does not provide many links to other related sites. The purpose of BIMI is to provide logistical assistance to independent Baptist missionaries and churches. Missionaries affiliated with BIMI are serving in over 90 countries. They are involved in evangelistic work that leads to planting indigenous Baptist churches, which entails training national leadership. Bible colleges, seminaries and Christian camps are being established to reach all segments of the various cultures around the world. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions Properly stated above. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations BIMI is an independent Baptist mission. Site Ranking: A-1 BIMI has a very appealing site but it is very hard to navigate. Each link within the site is not interconnected. Every time you want to move within the site, you have to reconnect to the host site. Barnabas International, founded in 1986, is a non-denominational mission agency committed to the encouragement, edification and enrichment of men and women in missions, and national pastors and leaders.. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "The mission of Barnabas International is to edify, encourage, and strengthen servants in ministry. We creatively seek ways to fulfill our charter through personal, small group, and conference ministries. Our ministry priorities are targeted toward missionaries, pastors, national church leaders, and their families." (Excerpt from web site.) Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations The organization has no direct denominational affiliations but appears to be evangelical in nature. Site Ranking: C-2 The info provided specifically deals with Barnabas International itself. There are no outside links to other missions organizations. Child Evangelism Fellowship-- www.gospelcom.net/cef/ Summary CEF exists to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living. CEF specializes in working with churches helping them to implement and continue childrens ministries. Some of the assistance they provide includes trained personnel in every state and province in North America to help establish childrens ministries, curriculum materials at an affordable price, teaching in how to establish contacts with families in the neighborhood in which church ministers, and training for teens and young adults to evangelize children. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions CEFs core philosophy appears to be a desire to provide service for the local church in its effort to evangelize children. CEF provides extensive support to the church and clearly demonstrates a local church as well as a world focus. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations The statement of faith provided on CEFs web site indicates a somewhat baptistic belief system. According to Barbara Guthmiller, an administrator at CEF, CEF has a charismatic policy, a policy on assurance of salvation and one regarding child protection. They don't work with groups or organizations, but with individuals, and each individual who works with CEF is asked to make his or her own personal commitment to their statement of faith and policies. Site Ranking: A-1 The quality of the site is excellent. There are a variety of graphics and excellent pictures. The site is very easy to navigate and is well organized. Christ to the Nations -- www2.omnitel.net/robertas/cttn.html Summary "Christ To The Nations' goal is to reach all Nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are currently working in Lithuania, Cuba and the Philippines. Our US office is located in Cocoa, Florida. By God's grace and the help of believers we have started and are supporting several churches all over the world. Our mission also has a support program for the poorest children in Lithuania called "Bless The Children". At this moment over 200 children are in this program and every month they are receiving material support and the message of God's grace." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions No information available. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations The religious affiliations of this board are not determinable. Site Ranking: B-3 There are some good links provided in this site but there is a lack of detailed information about the mission work. G?2j'ys Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "Our Mission desires to serve each missionary as an agent between the local church and the missionary, realizing his freedom in the Lord to do anything that is not contrary to the Bible. It is also recognized that two cannot walk together except they be agreed. All our missionaries must accept our purpose, precepts, practices, policies, and adhere to our appearance code which is a part of the brochure. We are a Family Centered Mission. There are Missions and missionaries who feel that they are justified in neglecting their children because of the work. We do not believe that. We do believe there is a balance which is acceptable to God. A missionary wife's first place is in the home. She is to love her husband, love her children, and be a good keeper at home. We believe there is a place for her in the ministry. She can teach children and ladies in Sunday School, conduct Bible classes with the same during the week, assist her husband in many other ways, but her first responsibility is the home (Titus 2:1-5)! We believe that children are the responsibility of their parents. That responsibility should not be neglected by placing them in a boarding school. Their life will be formed from the time they are born until they are in their middle teens. It is the responsibility of parents to raise the children which God has given them." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations The following excerpt from Fundamental Baptist World-Wide Missions doctrinal statement would indicate a leaning or possibly direct affiliation with Landmarkism. "We are a Baptist Mission (Not baptistic...). Our Mission holds tenaciously and militantly to the precepts and positions which have been held historically by Baptist. Our heritage dates back to the time of Christ! Baptist were not and are not Protestants! We have great love and respect for many people who are saved and serve God under other names, whom we cannot yoke nor co-operate with in the work of Christ. A reading of the booklet, "The Trail of Blood" will make you appreciate your great Baptist heritage. It should be read by every servant of Christ at least once a year, lest we become too friendly with those who persecuted, tortured, and jailed us in years past!" Site Ranking: B-1 The site is very well organized and very detailed information is available about the mission agency. Global Missions Fellowship-- www.gmf.org/ Summary "The vision of GMF is to plant a church in every neighborhood of the world. God's method for fulfilling the Great Commission is the Church, and GMF serves as a catalyst to help the Church plant new congregations in strategic cities around the world." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "GMF desires to serve as a resource to the church. We are not seeking to function as a "para-church" organization. Therefore, we will not work "around the church", but only "through the church". Our purpose is to impart vision and tangibly help mobilize the clergy and laity of the church to focus her God given resources in Great Commission evangelism and church planting." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations NO information available.. Site Ranking: B-2 This web site is very attractive and contains fairly detailed information about the mission but no outside links or research possibilities. Gospel for Asia -- www.gfa.org Summary This mission is an organization which specializes in reaching Asia for Christ--specifically targeting the geographical area known as the 10/40 window. Gospel for Asia's more than 10,000 native missionaries have planted hundreds of churches in previously unreached areas in 11 Asian countries. With 30+ missionary training centers right on the field, Gospel for Asia is annually training thousands of new missionaries. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions The organization is headed by K. P. Yohannan. His philosophy of missions tends to neglect the role of the local church in missions. All missionaries are recruited and sent out by GFA, not by local churches. Consequently, the primary role of the local church in the West is to provide prayer and financial support for these missionaries. Gospel for Asia trains, equips and sends native missionaries to evangelize their own people. One-hundred percent of all native missionary support goes directly to the mission field. Nothing is taken out for administrative expenses. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations The organization is heavily ecumenical in nature. One major program with which it is involved is known as the Joshua Project. This ambitious project is designed to plant churches among each of 100 unreached people groups in Asia by the year 2000. This initiative, the Joshua Project 2000-GFA, represents a refinement in Gospel for Asia's long-stated objective: reaching the most unreached with the Gospel. Site Ranking: A-1 This site provides an excellent research tool in the area of Asian missions. There are many outside links to other sites as well as much information about the mission work itself and the various fields of ministry. The quality of the site is also excellent. There are a variety of graphics and excellent pictures of missionaries and mission fields. The site is very easy to navigate and is well organized. Gospel Missionary Union -- www.gmu.org/index.html Summary "Our mission is to glorify God by partnering with the church in its mission to the world. The words network and partnership are more than current buzz words theyre biblical principles. As a sending agency, GMU partners with local churches with whom we share a common commitment to reach the unreached with Gods good news. The task of discipling the nations belongs to the whole body of Christ and we feel that can best be accomplished by working together." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions As seen above, GMU considers itself a sending agency, not simply a service ministry for the church. Their missionaries are recruited and sent out through the mission board and then supported financially by the church. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations No information available. Site Ranking: B-3 This site contained only the basic information about the mission. No outside links were available. Grace Baptist World Mission International -- netministries.org Summary A service agency helping churches and missionaries to go "...and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..." Grace Baptist Missions was founded in response to the trend of some mission boards refusing to take missionaries who hold to the doctrines of grace and usurthe Biblical role of the local church in missions. The primary goals of GBM are to help local Baptist churches send missionaries directly to the mission field, to advise missionaries who wish to be sent by local churches, and to research and prepare materials to help churches and missionaries. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "We understand this to mean planting churches. We also believe this is the responsibility of the local church. Therefore, we do not send missionaries, but help churches to do so. The local church has the spiritual responsibility to select, support, and send God's servants to the mission field." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations No information available. Site Ranking: C-3 This is a basic one page web site with only a short description of the mission board available. There are no outside links. Harvest Evangelism -- www.harvestevan.org/ Summary "During its seventeen year history, the Lord has allowed Harvest Evangelism to develop prototype for reaching entire cities for Christ based on the biblical principles of unity, reconciliation and prayer. The first "laboratory" was Resistencia, Argentina, where the implementation of these principles produced 102% growth in church attendance during the three year period of time from 1988 to 1991. Since that time, Church growth in Resistencia has multiplied over 300% and there has been significant change in the spiritual climate of the city. Other cities, such as San Nicolas and Mar del Plata in Argentina are also beginning to see similar breakthroughs. In August of 1994, Ed Silvoso's book, That None Should Perish, which spells out in detail the principles behind the prototype, was published by Regal Books. Today, by God's grace, thousands of pastors and lay people in hundreds of congregations are impacting cities around the world through prayer evangelism. Harvest's U.S. staff are in position to help guide city-wide efforts such as "Pray Twin Cities" (Minneapolis/St. Paul), "Pray Yuba-Sutter" (Counties, in No. California), and "Pray South Bay" (San Jose, California area) as well as service emerging prayer evangelism projects in cities around the world from Hong Kong to South America to the United Kingdom." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "Each and all of the Harvest Evangelism ministries are dedicated to the task of reaching the population centers of the world for the cause of Christ. As in the beginning, the team remains committed to serve the entire Body of Christ by praying to the Lord of the harvest for more laborers (Matt. 9:38) and equipping those laborers already on the field (Eph. 4:12) until the Great Commission is fulfilled." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations No information available. Site Ranking: B-4 The site has eye appeal but very little else. There is very little pertinent information about the work, no doctrinal statement, and very little information to know where they stood on anything. Helps International Ministries, Inc. -- www.xc.org/helpintl/ Summary Helps International Ministries (also known as HIM) is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian mission which provides technical services to evangelical missionary agencies, overseas Christian schools, medical facilities and other evangelistic groups. Some examples of assistance provided are construction, computer services, planning and design services, and engineering assistance. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions HIM's ultimate goal is to see others come to a saving relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. HIM's unique ministry accomplishes this through every practical and effective method of using the Spiritual Gift of "helps." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations Helps International Ministries (also known as HIM) is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian mission Site Ranking: C-2 The use of graphics is average compared to todays standards. The information provided about the mission is helpful. InterAct Ministries -- www.interactministries.org/ Summary InterAct Ministries is a non-denominational mission agency of nearly 150 staff members supported by a countless number of churches and individuals. The main thrust of the mission is cross-cultural church planting through indigenous leadership development. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "The majority of InterAct staff are involved in cross-cultural church planting. Church planters have one goal: to see local, culturally relevant evangelical churches established and led by indigenous leaders committed to further missionary outreach. It's an arduous task, a fierce spiritual battle, but an attainable goal. It requires special communication skills and a knowledge of the Word to convey the love of Christ within a different culture." Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations "Although current members come from a wide variety of denominational backgrounds (e.g. Baptist, Evangelical Free, Methodist, Christian & Missionary Alliance, Independent, and more), InterAct Ministries is a non-denominational, non-charismatic mission organization whose members adhere to a corporate statement of doctrinal belief. Below is a brief summary of InterAct's doctrinal statement; a copy of the complete statement is available upon request." Site Ranking: B-2 This site contained only the basic information about the mission. No outside links were available. International Care Facilitators -- www.icfmin.ca/icfwhat.html Summary "ICF Ministries was founded in 1991 with the vision to provide opportunities for the Christian lay-person to experience the mission field in a very practical way, primarily through the implementation of aid projects to Third World nations. Site Ranking: C-3 Thus site is a very basic one page site. There is a little information about the mission itself but that is about it. Lifeline Christian Mission -- www.lifeline.org/ Summary "Lifeline seeks to fulfill a two-fold purpose. Our philosophy dictates that, (1) we take the Good News of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world and (2) we teach home Christians God's will concerning mission responsibility. As we accomplish this purpose, Jesus Christ remains the "central focus" of all we do." Philosophy and Outlook of Missions No information available. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations "Lifeline Christian Mission is doctrinally aligned with non-denominational independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. We believe that by the Grace of God, having heard and obeyed the Word, man can have salvation. One must repent, confess, accept Christ as Lord and Savior, and be immersed into Christ, receiving the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and continue to live in accordance with Christ's teachings." Site Ranking: B-2 The graphics of this site are very good with buttons for traveling the site. They provide an extensive newsletter online or available in printed form. They also have a sights and sounds section of their site which provides maps, etc. info on various fields. Macedonia World Baptist Missions -- www.mwbm.org/ Summary "Macedonia World Baptist Missions, Inc. was organized in 1967 by Baptist Pastors in the Atlanta, Georgia area primarily for work in the country of Haiti. Since 1974, Macedonia has grown to a worldwide organization with Missionaries working in 22 foreign countries and 8 states. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions The stated ministry goal of MMPI is for every missionary to be able to have their own video clearly showing and explaining to all the world what they do, and what their needs are. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations MMPI is primarily supported by Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. They tend to work with mission organizations affiliated with Evangelical Christian denominations. Site Ranking: D-2 The information provided in this site is very good. An added bonus is a search engine specifically designed for finding Christian sites on the internet. However, the site is very poorly designed by todays standards. Mostly black and gray are used and there is very little eye appeal. Mission Possible -- www.mp.org/index.html Summary Mission Possibles ministry dedicated to building the Church in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Mission Possible is training pastors and church leaders for Christian service. We're sponsoring national church planters and missionaries, equipping them with Bibles, Christian books and magazines, food, clothing and medicine. And, by God's grace, we're helping reach untold millions with the Good News of Christ through special outreach programs for young and old alike. Ecclesiastical Affiliations and Associations "No, we are not denominationally oriented. In fact, we have worked with many different organizations and denominations over the years, both in the U.S. and in Eastern Europe community. We are members of EFMA (Evangelical Foreign Mission Association).Personally, I am not against the "idea" of ecumenism, but have not been happy with its results. As Evangelical Christians, we believe certain things which ultimately are incompatible with other religions. This doesn't really help us fit in the ecumenical society." James A. Wycliffe Bible Translators -- www.wycliffe.org/ Summary "Wycliffe has a history of over sixty years of effective ministry. Wycliffe's founder, Cameron Townsend, caught the vision for Bible translation in 1918 when he traveled to Guatemala to sell Spanish Bibles. He had little success and realized that for many Spanish was a foreign language. They needed God's Word in their own language. Townsend dedicated the rest of his life to Bible translation. Wycliffe holds to the central values established by its founder. These values enable us to keep our goal in focus even as we change and grow to communicate the Gospel message in today's world. Wycliffe goes where others have not gone with the Gospel. This pioneering spirit has taken us to language groups of less than 100 in the Amazon and groups of more than a million in Africa. Philosophy and Outlook of Missions "Bible translation is at the core of everything we do. There is substantial evidence that it is difficult for a group of believers to grow as individuals or a church without God's Word in their language. But as people read and understand God's Word in their language, He works in their hearts and lives. Through His Word, He builds the body of believers. Bible translation, therefore, is long-term evangelism that takes root. Service is our way of life; not just what we do, but how we do it. It's action and attitude. We go as servants. We serve the countries where we work. We serve other organizations, providing scholastic and technical help, community development and literacy assistance. We go as partners. As team members we work to make the ministries of others more effective. We work to bring hope to overlooked and forgotten groups of Bible less peoples. We seek to enable."
