3619 -
1) (the act
of) building, building up / 2) metaphorically the act of one who promotes
another's growth in Christian wisdom, piety, happiness, holiness / noun
feminine
Rom. 14:19 Therefore
let us pursue the things [which make] for peace and the things by which one
may edify another.
Rom. 15:1 We then who
are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please
ourselves. 2 Let each of us please [his] neighbor for [his] good, leading
to edification. 3 For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it
is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me."
1 Cor. 3:7-9 7 So then
neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the
increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will
receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's
fellow workers; you are God's field, [you are] God's building.
1 Cor. 14:2-5 For he
who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one
understands [him;] however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he
who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to
men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies
edifies (3618) the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even
more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies [is] greater than he who
speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may
receive edification.
1 Cor. 14:12 Even so
you, since you are zealous for spiritual [gifts, let it be] for the
edification of the church [that] you seek to excel.
1 Cor. 14:26 How is it
then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a
teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all
things be done for edification.
2 Cor. 10:7-8 7 Do
you look at things according to the outward appearance? If anyone is
convinced in himself that he is Christ's, let him again consider this in
himself, that just as he [is] Christ's, even so we [are] Christ's. 8 For
even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord
gave us for edification and not for your destruction, I shall not be
ashamed --
2 Cor. 12:18-19 I urged
Titus, and sent our brother with [him]. Did Titus take advantage of you? Did
we not walk in the same spirit? Did [we] not [walk] in the same steps? 19
Again, do you think that we excuse ourselves to you? We speak before God in
Christ. But [we do] all things, beloved, for your edification.
2 Cor. 13:9-10 For we
are glad when we are weak and you are strong. And this also we pray, that
you may be made complete. 10 Therefore I write these things being absent,
lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the authority which
the Lord has given me for edification and not for destruction.
Eph. 2:19-22 Now,
therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens
with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built
on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being
the chief corner[stone], 21 in whom the whole building, being joined
together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are
being built together (sun
& 3918) for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Eph. 4:11-16 And He
Himself gave some [to be] apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and
some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work
of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all
come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a
perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14
that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning
craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may
grow up in all things into Him who is the head -- Christ -- 16 from whom
the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies,
according to the effective working by which every part does its share,
causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Eph. 4:29-30 Let no
corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary
edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. 30 And do not
grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of
redemption. |
