Love (noun and verb form)

(άγαπάω, (25)) and the corresponding noun agapē present “the characteristic word of Christianity, and since the Spirit of revelation has used it to express ideas previously unknown, enquiry into its use, whether in Greek literature or in the Septuagint, throws but little light upon its distinctive meaning in the N.T.

  • Matthew 5:43  You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."  44  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you,. . . . 46  For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same?
