1 Thess 3:9-13  For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God, 10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith.  11 Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. 12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we [do] to you, 13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

Commitment to Prayer:

Ø       night and day praying exceedingly (uπερπερισσεύω) - denotes "superabundantly"

o        Ephesians 3:20-21  Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,  21  to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, forever. Amen.

Perfect what is lacking in your faith

Ø       Perfect [2675] (καταρτίζω) "to render fit, complete", "is used of mending nets. It does not necessarily imply, however, that that to which it is applied has been damaged; it signifies, rather, right ordering and arrangement.

o        1 Peter 5:10  But the God of all grace, He calling us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, He will perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Request:

12 And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we [do] to you,

Ø       increase:  [4121] ) (πλεονάζω) "to make to abound,"

Ø       abound:  [4052]  (περισσεύω) - It is used transitively, in the sense of "to make to abound," e.g., to provide a person richly so that he has "abundance,"  His power to make us "to abound" in love,

Ø       Love to one another and to all

Result:

13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

Ø       Establish: [4741] (στηρίζω) "to fix, make fast, to set"

o        1 Thessalonians 3:2  And we sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and to comfort you concerning your faith,

Prayer:

God I ask that you will make me increase and abound in love to other believers and to all, even as Paul’s model in Your Word, so that You may establish my heart blameless in holiness before You my God and Father at the coming of my Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

The Path to Godliness Leads through the Valley of Suffering

1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13  but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
