Col. 1:9-14 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing [Him], being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Paul's Commitment to Prayer -- Col. 1:9-14 (NKJV) For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask

Request -- that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will

  • in all [spiritual] wisdom and
  • spiritual understanding;

Result of the Request -- that you may walk worthy of the Lord,

  • fully pleasing [Him],
  • being fruitful in every good work and
  • increasing in the knowledge of God;

Request -- strengthened

  • with all might,
  • according to His glorious power,

Result of the Request -- for

  • all patience and
  • longsuffering with joy;

God's Ability to do the Request -- giving thanks to the Father

  • who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
  • He has delivered us from the power of darkness and
  • conveyed [us] into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
  • in whom we have redemption
  • through His blood,
  • the forgiveness of sins.

God I ask that I may be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that I may walk worthy of You Lord, fully pleasing to you, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of You; strengthened with all might, according to Your glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.  Father I thank you because you have qualified me to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in the light and You have delivered me from the power of darkness and conveyed me into the kingdom of the Son of Your love, 14 in whom I have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

The Path to Godliness Leads through the Valley of Suffering

1 Peter 5:8-10 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
