Hebrews 4:12-16  For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  13  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.  14  Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  15  For we do not have a high priest who cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.  16  Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

God knows us – our thoughts, our intents, our weaknesses

Ø 12 For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do

Christ is our “great High Priest” making intercession for us

Ø 14  Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God,

Our Response

Ø let us hold fast our profession.

Christ is touched with the feelings of our infirmities

Ø For we have a high priest who can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities,

Ø       touched with the feelings of – συμπαθέω 4834, to suffer with another ( sun, with, paschō, to suffer), to be affected similarly, to have compassion upon,

Ø       infirmities – 769 – a)sqevneia 769 lit. want of strength ( a, negative, sthenos, strength), weakness, indicating inability to produce results

Christ was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin

Ø but was in all points tempted just as we are, yet without sin.

Our Response

Ø 16  Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Father I thank you that the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing apart of my soul and spirit, and of my joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of my heart.

I thank you that I am manifest in your sight, and I stand naked and opened to Your eyes.

I thank you I have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, and it is my desire to hold fast my profession.

I thank you I have a high priest who is touched with the feelings of my infirmities, and was in all points tempted just as I am, yet without sin.

And because of all these things, I thank you most of all that I can come boldly to the throne of grace, that I may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The Path to Godliness Leads through the Valley of Suffering

1 Peter 5:8-10 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
