Spirit Intercedes for Us

Rom. 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses (769). For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession (5241 / uJper+ 1793)  for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.   27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit [is], because He makes intercession (1793) for the saints according to [the will of] God. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Situation

·         Those times when we sense the frailty and weakness of our humanity

o        “As we struggle to express in articulate language the desires of our hearts and find that our deepest emotions are the most inexpressible, we ‘groan’ under this felt inability.”

Promise

·         Spirit Himself makes intercession for us

o        with groanings which cannot be uttered

o        According to the perfect will of God

During those times when we are overwhelmed by the circumstances of life, the intercession of the Spirit give us assurance that we are praying for the ‘good’ will of God

makes intercession -- ejntugcavnw 1793 primarily to fall in with, meet with in order to converse; then, to make petition, especially to make intercession, plead with a person, either for or against others;

makes intercession  -- uJperentugcavnw 5241, to make a petition or intercede on behalf of another (huper on behalf of, and1793), is used in Rom. 8:26 of the work of the Holy Spirit in making intercession

weaknesses -- ajsqevneia 769 lit., want of strength (a, negative, sthenos, strength), weakness, indicating inability to produce results, is most frequently translated “infirmity,” or “infirmities;”

God, I feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of my life and I do not know what I should pray for or how I should pray, but I praise you that the Spirit also helps in my weaknesses and makes intercession for me with groanings which cannot be uttered.  I thank you that He who searches my heart knows the mind of the Spirit because He makes intercession for me according to the will of God. I am confident that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
