Examples of One-Another Ministry Opportunities

  • Love One Another -- John 13:34-35; John 15:12, 17; Rom. 13:8;

    • Understand the immensity of the love of God for His children and the corresponding love that God has designed for us to also love His children.  This love is based on a true knowledge of each other, our names, our families, our burdens, our joys.
  • Pray One for Another -- Jas. 5:16

    • Prayer is the greatest weapon for a believer to use in the great battle we all share against the evil one.  We must commit ourselves to pray diligently for one another.  This prayer is based on specific requests, personal involvement and a heart directed by the Spirit of God.
  • Bear One Another's Burdens -- Gal. 6:2

    • The burden of the battle is great.  Believers must enter into the burdens of those suffering in the church through the sharing of personal information concerning the pressures and struggles faced by other members of the body.
  • Care For Another -- 1 Cor. 12:25

    • Take time to think of those believers living and working and suffering in all the places where the church is found.  They must know the reality of their situation, what they are facing and how they are able to respond.  "And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it".  1 Cor. 12:26
  • Have Compassion One of Another -- 1 Pet. 3:8

    • Enter into the joy and suffering of other believers, be sympathetic to their suffering and feel those things they feel.  This compassion and sympathy is motivated by the work of the Spirit of God as a believer understands on a personal level the lives of other believers.
  • Kindly Affectioned One to Another with Brotherly Love -- Rom. 12:10

    • Open our hearts to the realization that we are part of the family of God and as members of this family we have a reciprocal tenderness of familial love for all believers.  We are to love one another as brothers and sisters.
  • Members One of Another -- Rom. 12:3-5; Eph. 4:25

    • Gain an appreciation of the fact that as we are members of Christ we are also members of one another much the same way that each limb on a tree is a part of the health and nourishment of the entire tree.
  • Be Kind One to Another -- Eph. 4:32

    • Guard an attitude of kindness in your heart concerning other believers.
  • Be Tenderhearted One to Another -- Eph. 4:32

    • Be tender and 'good hearted' in all your thoughts and actions towards other believers as this is a sign of a true spiritual relationship between believers.
  • Minister One to Another -- 1 Pet. 4:10

    • Seek opportunities to serve other members of the body, not for our glory but for the glory of God Himself.  As we have this attitude of servanthood we will have a clearer understanding of what true spiritual community should look like.
  • Serve One Another -- Gal. 5:15

    • Understand that God has not called believers to positions of prominence or power but He has called us to be servants to one another.
  • Be Subject One to Another -- Eph. 5:21; 1 Pet. 5:5

    • Realize that God has called believer to give place to one another and to not seek the 'high' place because one might have more of this world's goods than another.
  • Be of the Same Mind One Toward Another -- Rom. 12:16

    • Understand that various cultural adaptations of the 'doing of church' does not impact the reality that we are serving and worshiping the same God and are committed to the same gospel message.
  • Edify One Another -- Rom. 14:19; 1 Thess. 5:11

    • Appreciate the fact that we are part of the body of Christ and it is the responsibility of each member of that body to build up the other members of the body by functioning as God has designed.  Each member has something to offer the body for the spiritual health of the body.
  • Bear With One Another in Love -- Eph. 4:2; Col. 3:13

    • Be ready to move beyond those petty differences which can divide the body and be so controlled by the Love of God that we so not allow those things of man to separate or divide us.
  • Consider One Another -- Heb. 10:24

    •  Have a clear understanding of a person other believers which comes from considering them attentively, or fixing one's eyes or mind upon upon them in an intense manner.  This is indicative of a deep relationship between two believers.
  • Preferring One Another -- Rom. 12:10

    • Seek out ways to demonstrate the giving of honor and place to other believers.  This attitude is based on the reality that we are all seeking to build up the other members of the body for God's glory.
  • Receive One Another -- Rom. 15:7

    • Open your heart and take as your companion and friend those believers you have come to know and appreciate from the various parts of the body.
  • Teach One Another -- Col. 3:16

    • Open you mind to the truth of God's Word as it is understood and articulated by those members of the body which have had an opportunity to live the reality of the sufficiency of the grace of God for every moment of every day and in every situation.
  • Have Peace One with Another -- Mark 9:50

    • Seek to live at peace with the other members of the body who may be living out their faith in ways that seem to be different and have worship styles which seem foreign to other members of the body.
  • Admonish One Another -- Rom. 15:14

    • Be open to warnings and admonishments from other members of the body as they see those things in our lives and practice of our faith which are not in keeping with the Word of God.
  • Comfort / Exhort One Another -- 1 Thess. 4:18; 1 Thess. 5:1; Heb. 3:13; 10:25

    • Be ready and willing to come alongside in a personal relationship with other believers when there is a need to comfort and exhort them in the things of God.
  • Use Hospitality One to Another -- 1 Pet. 4:9

    • Seek out those opportunities to demonstrate love and caring for those believers you come in contact with through various means.

The Church

Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the body. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

The Path to Godliness Leads through the Valley of Suffering

1 Peter 5:8-10 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

The Church

Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

Rejoice in the midst of Sufferings

1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13  but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 1:6-7 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Body

Romans 12:4-5 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
